Chef Donato Scotti and the Giovannotto family welcome you to the heart of the life in downtown Palo Alto.
The father of the family, Sal Giovannotto, made his way from Sicily with the American dream at the top of his goals. With his wife by his side and his
large family following close behind, Sal quickly climbed the ladder of success in the Peninsula and soon found himself working with Chef Donato Scotti of Il Fornaio Palo Alto on developing a new restaurant.
Chef Donato Scotti brings his talents from Bergamo, Italy to the streets of Palo Alto. His menus are designed to reflect the classic ingredients of his home country. His daily "La Cenetta," a 3-course dinner, is for the savvy palate that craves something a bit above and beyond the already desirable menu. Each and every homemade pasta exhibits the expertise and precision of Scotti's training and passion. But his day isn't complete without some time well spent with his hand cranked 1963 Berkel slicer cranking out thinly sliced prosciutto, salame, and other fabulous cold cuts.
Their collaborative efforts have brought forth La Strada, a house welcoming you to the Northern Italian home-style kitchen and dinner table. Chef can often times be found chatting with Sal in their native tongue, if not fully immersed in conversations in Italian that frequent the restaurants ambience. Together, they have developed an inviting restaurant, catching the eyes and stomachs of an abundance of people. Some want to be a part of the kitchen, dining with the Chef at the open kitchen counter. Others covet a good Italian dish. And then there are those with an insatiable appetite for fine food impeccably paired with the classic wines of Italy, topped off with a healthy dose of Chef's wit. With Chef Scotti's personable and welcoming nature and Sal's passions for bringing a part of Italy to Palo Alto, every guest truly feels a part of the family.
